I hope you'll find today's activity fun and a nice break from the "Picnic at the Pops" work we have been doing!
Go to the website below. Read the text and watch the videos about the history of the cup song. (I bet you thought it originated in the movie "Pitch Perfect." Guess again!! AND---No laughing at the guys from the '70's! Someday your kids will laughing at the stuff you think is cool in 2016!) Also, watch the cool variations on the cup song AND the instructional video on HOW to do it!
(Stop reading where it says: "6 cup game activities for music teachers." When you can perform the cup song, come back here for your next steps.... Here's the website: The Complete Guide to the Cup Song
If you're reading here, that means that you've read the website, watched ALL of the videos AND you are now able to perform the Cup Song. If not, keep working on it. If you have completed everything so far, go on....
Now, I want you to create your OWN cup song! Well, just the rhythmic, clappy, cuppy part. No singing necessary....unless you REALLY want to! You can do this alone, or with ONE partner. You should create an EIGHT BEAT pattern that includes elements similar to the original and can be repeated in a loop (like how the original keeps repeating). Once you have it created, I would suggest doing a quick video with your ipad so you don't forget it. You will be expected to perform your fancy new Cup Song for me soon! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
At the end of class, please return your cup.
Have a great day!!
PS-- Did you notice the CUP at the top of the page? See what I did there? :)
